Celebrating five years as an artist collective in Exeter, NH

We love what has come before us and we love what the future can possibly bring

Our "collective studio  thought" kicked into high gear five and a half years ago when a friend (and art fan) told us about The New Heights Teen Center possibly being for sale. A few years prior to this, the idea of collective artist studios had been brewing, especially each time we heard from any artist asking if there was studio space in Exeter.

At the time (2014, 2015, 2016 etc, the pickin's were very slim in town. Exeter Station had a few undeveloped spaces flying under the radar. Really not seeking artists, specifically, but, instead, offering industrial, office, business space. Artists in Exeter also had their own home studios.

Then, it happened. There was a space. The Teen Center. And we jumped in not knowing what it would completely be, but, knowing that so many artists were looking for space where they would also find community.

Thank you to the first artists that believed in the dream: Dale Atkins, Gaby Grossman, Lori Martone, Festive Tree, and Dawn Amey by showing support in the idea. And thank you to the first artists in the door for studio space: Dawn Amey, Gaby Grossman, Deb Wheeler-Bean, then shortly after Artsy Barsi, Industrial Quilts, Artist Explores the World, and Artful Harper Studios.

Arty things to do in Exeter. A Capella rehearsal art-making nite....

We are so looking forward to this! @theafternotes are rehearsing here Wednesday Oct 13.

~ great creative energy.

~ no pressure.

~ create with us.

The Afternotes were here two years ago and we LOVED it. Such a nice creative time. They practiced (no formal performance). The artists created. A few people hung out.
Sooooo nice.... everyone basically did their thing. All in the moment. All happy to be sharing the creative process.

Musicians in process...visual artists in process.

One of those few rare moments when the stage performance is NOT the goal. But instead, a giving and receiving of creative energy feeding off of one another, sharing, and lifting. Losing oneself in the vibe.

Can you join us?
Wed, Oct 13, 6:30-8:30 at the studio.

Send an email to us to reserve your spot. Bring your materials, drawing, fiber work, your sketchbook, and be in it.

$15
We have a few bevs and treats (to consume in the kitchen or in another part of the studio.)

Masks are required if you are not vaccinated.

We can accommodate up to 10 guests. Windows WIDE open. Heat on.
Email artupfrontstreet@gmail.com
To save a spot.

Don't want to work on an art process? That's ok. We welcome those who want to simply "be in the moment".

Thank you to the @theafternotes!
It is wonderful of you to think of us as you re-enter the process. We are all very excited.

Announcing the first artist in our residency program at Art Up Front Street: LiLi Un

As part of our five year anniversary celebration at Art Up Front Street we started an artist residency program from September 2021 thru February 2022. (One artist for each month).

We are so excited to announce that Lili Un is our artist for October 2021! We are looking forward to working with her.

We love this quote from her:

"I am a part time high school guidance counselor, full time artist in Dover. I have a Master’s degree in Art Therapy, and I love the process of healing through art. Throughout my life I have had the honor of learning many different art mediums, including traditional icon painting, weaving, and printmaking. Though I love to learn new things, I always return to painting as my favorite. My subjects are constantly changing since I find the world endlessly inspiring."

See more about her at https://www.liliunart.com/

Welcome Lili!

November 6&7, 5th Annual OPEN STUDIOS at Art Up Front Street, Saturday & Sunday, 10-4, in Exeter, NH

We are so excited to be announcing our 5th Annual November Open Studios!

TWO DAYS: November 6 & 7, Saturday & Sunday, 10-4 each day.

It has been a wild ride over the last year (as you well know), but we have a special reason to celebrate. We are FIVE years old! FIVE YEARS of being in the community sharing, making, and honoring creativity.

Art Up Front Street LLC was formed August 2016. The building was purchased September 2016. After clean-out and fix-up, the first artists moved into their studios January 2017. Since then, the growth has been very organic ... feeling our way through changes as Exeter's first art studio collective.

Now, we have a milestone to celebrate and we would love for you to be a part of it over the next few months. Our supportive community has meant so much to us. We are here because you found us, you came, and you continued to be present by visiting, purchasing, attending special events, and sending well wishes and congratulations as we have grown. Thank you from the bottom of our hearts.

The artists who have studios here and who been represented in the past have been the most wonderful inspirations to our growing collective. This process only floats because artists do what they do, they find their creative passions, and they freely share that knowledge and support with the other artists around them. We are "in it" for all of us.

For our 5th November OPEN STUDIOS we have: 8 studios open to the public, an art demo in studio 6, specials, a free drawing, plus treats and bevs on the front deck.

The types of art exhibited and for sale are: Collage, large and small original paintings, digital art, "Industrial Quilts", prints, cards, journals, photography, tiny paintings, framed and unframed works, watercolor.

Our wonderful regular studio artists are: Artsy Barsi, Industrial Quilts, Artful Harper Studios, Deb Wheeler-Bean, Natalie Marquis Art, Ree Katrak, & Rose Bryant. We have 2 of our favorite guest artists - Jeff Whittum Metal Art and Dale Atkins ceramic vessels. Plus... we currently have an artist residency program going on and Tracy Hines Home is the artist who is sharing space with us for the month.

Great fun ahead.

We hope you will spend the day in Exeter and join us.

All windows will be open. Plenty of free on-street parking. Look for the bright yellow front, the large flower murals, and the big dot on the exterior wall that says "art".

Paper Quilts: & other experiments by Ree Katrak, plus, Industrial Quilts: Industry & Nature by Anne Marie Kenny

Opening Reception, Saturday, September 18, 3-7 pm

Katrak: "Paper Quilts & other experiments"
Kenny: "Industrial Quilts: Nature & Industry: the patina series."

A collaborative experimental quilt exhibition.
Works are 10x16 to 28x30 and push the interpretations of traditional quilt-making.
Kenny's wonderful ocean blue patinas on hand-stitched copper metal panels, with wire, microchips, and natural fibers.
Katrak's bold color, layers of hand-textured papers, and unexpected tension inducing compositions.

~ Anne Marie Kenny "Industrial Quilts" have been exhibited in Tokyo, purchased by major corporations, and collected by the Currier Gallery plus private collectors.
~ Ree Katrak has exhibited throughout New England and served as the president of the New Hampshire Art Association. Her organic mark-making graces the walls of patrons around the country.
Shown together, the results of this collaboration entice viewers to experience the "non-traditional quilting" process through the artists' lens.

Join us at Art Up Front Street, 120 Front Street, Exeter, NH on Saturday, September 18 from 3 to 7 for the OPENING RECEPTION with beverages and bites. The exhibition is up for ONLY ONE WEEK (TUE - SAT) thru SEPT 25, 11-5 each day.

Local art gallery and artist's workspace
Aug 2021 •
This was a truly enjoyable spot. The place was filled with local artists work. You can also experience the artist's workspace and the artists are more then happy to explain there artistic process. A must to do while visiting Exeter.

Written August 5, 2021

This photo taken by Artful Harper Studios from her "Things you can say to the wind" series. It along with her "Baggage" series prompts a lot of conversation with our visitors. And one of the things we always hear is how the guests are surprised by the size of the space and the amount of art we have here. We would agree 💛.
